Tips & Guide

Best practices for creating QR codes that scan reliably every time.

Error Correction Levels

Error correction lets scanners read damaged or partially obscured codes.

  • LLow (7%) — Use for clean digital displays where the code won't be damaged. Smallest code size.
  • MMedium (15%) — Good default for most uses. Balances size and durability.
  • QQuartile (25%) — Good for printed materials that might see wear.
  • HHigh (30%) — Required when embedding a logo overlay. The logo covers part of the code, so maximum redundancy is needed.

Printing & Sizing

  • 01Minimum print size is about 2cm × 2cm. Smaller codes become difficult to scan with phone cameras.
  • 02Use SVG format for any print use — it's vector so it stays crisp at any size. PNG is best for digital/web use.
  • 03Keep a "quiet zone" — a blank border around the code at least 4 modules wide. This is built in by default here.
  • 04High contrast matters. Dark code on a light background always outperforms light-on-dark in real-world scanning.

Content Tips by Type

  • 🔗URLs: Shorter URLs produce simpler, easier-to-scan QR codes. Use a URL shortener for long links.
  • 📶WiFi: Test by scanning on a device not already connected to the network.
  • 👤vCard: Include at least a name and one contact method — otherwise the card is useless when scanned.
  • 📅Calendar: Always include a specific end time — open-ended events confuse some calendar apps.
  • Crypto: Double-check the wallet address character-by-character before sharing — transactions are irreversible.
